As Aparências veladas em A metamorfose, de Franz Kafka, e Bartleby, O escriturário: Uma história de Wall Street, de Herman Melville

Abstract

This work is a study of the novel The Metamorphosis of the Czech writer Franz Kafka, in dialogue with the novel Bartleby, The Scrivener: A Story Of Wall-street of the American writer Herman Melville. The protagonists of the works analyzed are within a bureaucratic enclosure and detract from the "moral organization" of the world. The first precursor would be Bartleby, who one day prefers not to carry out the bureaucratic tasks at the law firm, thereby disrupting the order of work and annihilating subordination to the boss. In The Metamorphosis, the effect that breaks this same bureaucratic order is a monstrous insect. The transgression of the protagonists focuses on an apparent incommunicability that permeates the whole central nucleus of the novels. In view of this, we presuppose a power of denial of these protagonists, incommunicable with the bureaucratic reality of daily life. Thus, these are built within a reality to be transgressed: the order output for clutter, from the point far to the extreme point. The objective of this work is to examine the veiled appearances of the protagonists and the transgression movements that denounce: the incommunicability of man, the bureaucratic labyrinths of practical life and the denial of the affirmation of a world in ruins, that rises through literature to perform the unrealizable of another world.
