Contribuições da Neuropsicologia no Contexto da COVID-19: uma revisão integrativa

Abstract

Neuropsychology is the field of science that studies the relationship between the Nervous System, cognition, and behavior. The coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), is known to trigger neurocognitive impairment. This article aims to analyze the contributions of Neuropsychology in the neurocognitive damage caused by COVID-19. Through the integrative review, the analysis of articles extracted from PubMed was performed. 318 articles were found, but only 6 were in line with the previously established criteria. The integration of the extracted articles showed that there is a role of neuropsychologists more directed to the assessment of neurocognitive impacts and no research has brought data specifying the role of Neuropsychology in relation to the rehabilitation of these cognitive dysfunctions. The involvement of these professionals in the research was evidenced by the data from the neuropsychological tests and by the description of the importance of the work of these professionals in the neuropsychological care of COVID-19. It is concluded that this review demonstrated how Neuropsychology has contributed so far in the pandemic. It is hoped that more research will be published to broaden the understanding of neurocognitive impairment- COVID-19, as well as to support the practice of these professionals in the treatment of patients with post-COVID-19 cognitive impairment.
