Leiomiossarcoma vaginal em cadela: relato de caso

Abstract

Leiomyosarcoma is part of the sarcomas of soft tissues, is a malignant tumor that has origin in the smooth musculature. In the female's genital system, it most commonly affects the vagina and uterus. In the vagina, it can originate in the smooth muscle of the vaginal wall, being considered infrequent in bitches and very rare in cats. This neoplasia mainly affects non-castrated adult or elderly females, thus, related to the production of reproductive hormones, although its etiology is still not well understood. The objective of this study was to describe a clinical case of vaginal leiomyosarcoma in a bitch with no defined race (SRD), 8 years old. The neoformation was in the perineum region and the owner complained of increased volume in this region with rapid growth about 1 month ago. The recommended treatment was the surgical procedure, where ovariohysterectomy (OSH) was performed and removal of the neoplastic mass was done through episiotomy. The material collected from the perineal region was sent for histopathological analysis thus confirming leiomyosarcoma. There was a good postoperative evolution and the animal had no visible signs of relapse after 8 months of follow-up.
