Mapeamento e análise do estágio de conservação dos remanescentes de Mata Atlântica no Município de Cruz das Almas, Bahia

Abstract

The Atlantic Forest is one of the richest biomes in biodiversity and providing very important ecosystem services, and regulate the flow of water sources, control the climate balance, protect cliffs and slopes of the mountains, among others. Originally occupied 15% of the Brazilian territory, however, it is reduced to 7.8% of its area. In the Northeast Atlantic Forest covered 28.84% of its territory, but has been reduced to about 2.21%, endangering this biome. In Bahia, it is distributed throughout much of the coastal region, including the Reconcavo, where is located the city of Cruz das Almas. This study aimed to map and diagnose existing Atlantic Forest remnants in Cruz das Almas, Bahia. The mapping was carried out using satellite images available on Google Earth software. The remaining two were found and the first with an area of 13.7 ha and the second with 1.9 ha, both with almost complete devastation of their original vegetation, especially in their perimeters. It was found the need for stimulus and conservationist awareness of the general population, especially farmers and rural farmers in this county for the preservation and conservation of these fragments to serve as seed bank to recover part of the rich biodiversity of this biome, as well as the monitoring more closely by the responsible agencies.
