Utilização de gel de Aloe vera (L.) Burm. F. E óleo essencial de Melaleuca alternifolia Cheel (Myrtaceae) em ferida cirúrgica no pós operatório de ovariohisterectomia de um felino doméstico relato de caso

Abstract

Aloe vera has been known for thousands of years for its medicinal properties, having increased scientific investigations recognizing the therapeutic effects of its use. The essential oil of Melaleuca alternifolia, a tree from Australia, has a recognized antimicrobial activity, which justifies its growing popularity. The relationship between humans and pets has been tightening, so that therapeutic alternatives have been required for use in these animals. The objective of this study was to report a case of use of Aloe vera gel associated with essential oil of Melaleuca alternifolia in a surgical wound in the postoperative period of an ovariohysterectomy of a domestic feline, female, 2.3 kg, healthy, with low social acceptance to humans, attended at the University Hospital of Veterinary Medicine of the Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia. The microbiological profile, which detected the presence of Escherichia coli, Proteus spp. and Shigella spp., and the clinical aspect, showing discrete signs of infection and inflammation, of the surgical wound. The use of these associated compounds resulted in satisfactory effects in the face of the imposed situation.
