“Quando tudo pede um pouco mais de calma”: relato de caso de reabilitação neuropsicológica em paciente com transtorno obsessivo-compulsivo

Abstract

Neuropsychology studies the organization of higher mental functions and their relation to behavior. During the treatment in this area, evaluation is the first step to be performed, investigating the higher cortical functions, such as attention and memory, it should include subjective perceptions of social inequality, and quality of life of the patient. After the evaluation and the result of the same, rehabilitation is structured, with the purpose of improving the patient's quality of life, using compensatory strategies and learning new skills. It is important to emphasize that neuropsychological rehabilitation is a biopsychosocial treatment, encompassing patient and family, considering physical and cognitive alterations, the environment in which the patient lives, and their life history. Neuropsychology provides important theoretical and instrumental aid for clinical and scientific activity in neuropsychiatry. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is considered a neuropsychiatric disorder, since research has shown brain alterations when compared to the brains of people who do not have the disease, in this sense, studies on neuropsychological rehabilitation demonstrate positive results and significant improvements in patients submitted to it. In this direction, the objective of the present study was to perform a neuropsychological evaluation before and after the intervention through neuropsychological rehabilitation in a patient with OCD. In addition to the quantitative results, originated from the test scores, and analyzed statistically by the SPSS 25.0 program, it was noticed behavioral changes in the patient after the work of neuropsychological rehabilitation. It should be emphasized that there is a shortage of Brazilian studies in the area and these should be encouraged, since Neuropsychology can contribute to the development of treatments that allow assistance to patients with neuropsychiatric disorders, especially OCD.
