Hérnia diafragmática traumática em felino: relato de caso

Abstract

Traumatic diaphragmatic hernia is characterized by loss of the physical integrity of the diaphragm, followed by projection of the viscera that is in the abdominal cavity into the thoracic cavity. This injury occurs due to trauma, with accidents involving motor vehicles responsible for most cases in small animals. Because it is an anatomical lesion, it is impossible for the spontaneous closure of the diaphragm to occur, so the treatment is uniquely surgical, promoting suture in the diaphragm, and several surgical techniques are described. Due to the importance of the subject in the academic community and in the surgery of small animals, this work aims to carry out a concise review of the literature on the main pathophysiological, clinical and surgical aspects of traumatic diaphragmatic hernia in felines, as well as to report a case of diaphragmatic hernia traumatic lesion in feline, submitted to surgical treatment, as postoperative complications and need for emergency care, with evolution to death of the animal.
