T: Brazil is considered the center of diversity of cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz). Therefore, it is necessary to invest in its use for the development of products and technologies. This study aimed to investigate two main points for the germplasm management and conservation, which are the selection of most informative descriptors for germplasm characterization and evaluation, and the clustering of genetic diversity based on qualitative and quantitative descriptors. Ninety-five cassava accessions previously characterized for 51 morpho-agronomic descriptors were analyzed. In the first study multiple correspondence analysis (MCA), based on four methods of selecting descriptors were used. It was observed that about 30 descriptors were able to represent more than 90% of the genetic variability in the first three axes of the MCA. Moreover, 32 morpho-agronomic descriptors with high ability to discriminate cassava germplasm and high correlation with the full set of descriptors (0.81) were selected. In the second study the genetic variation of cassava accessions based on quantitative traits (QT) and joint analysis (QQT) (quantitative and qualitative), using the WardMLM method was evaluated. Five and four groups were identified based on the QT and QQT analysis, respectively. In general, it was observed that most accessions presented high maximum assignment probability (> 0.90) within each cluster. Differences in clustering according to the type of data indicate that quantitative and qualitative traits possibly analyze different genomic regions. However, the joint analysis using the Ward-MLM procedure clustered genotypes with high phenotypic differences.pt_BR
