Abstract

This article addresses the specifics of Fire and Panic Prevention and Combat Projects (PPCIP) in listed buildings. The aim is to discuss the analysis of compliance with the PPCIP as a tool to preserve the listed property and guarantee the safety of the occupants. The focus of the article is on the study of the technical office of the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN) of Cachoeira, a historic building that also houses a historical collection, located in the historic center of the city of Cachoeira, Bahia. A study was carried out on the building's compliance with fire and panic security measures (MSCIP) and, subsequently, a proposal for short-term adequacy, based on the regulations in force in the year 2020. the risks generated by the lack of preservation in historic buildings, specifically in relation to fire cases, based on the history of national fires in this type of 4 construction. Then, it seeks to study the updates in the regulations for fire control and prevention that aim to ensure the protection of property, visitors and occupants, maintaining the prominence of the property, preserving its main structure, the relationship with the surroundings and its visual impact. The theoretical basis of the research was formed through a literature review, then to compose the case study, documentary research and an on-site visit were carried out. Based on the studies carried out, it is concluded that the building, despite its immeasurable value for the city's heritage, and being a place of public access, does not have a fire protection system. Furthermore, the specific measures it presents are not in compliance with current legislation. Finally, the research discusses adjustments to be made to ensure harmony between the contemporary value and what should be protected.
